Ami Goodheart, a brilliant costume designer from Los Angeles, and past neighbor of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard joins me to talk about her personal experience with Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in a same sex relationship, shedding more light on female perpetrators of IPV.

Although women are more likely to be victims of IPV with male perpetrators, 1 out of 10 men report to being victims of IPV with female partners.  This number is probably not an accurate representation due to the shame and stigma associated with reporting IPV by males.

Ami also shares her personal experience with being believed while in a same sex relationship.  Lesbian victims are often not taken seriously when reporting abuse.

We need to do better as a society and learn to believe all victims of domestic violence, REGARDLESS of gender.  It shouldn’t be “Believe All women” but believe ALL Victims!

It’s also important to keep in mind that women being abusive and perpetrators of IPV is NOT an invitation to stop believing women but it should be an opportunity to better identify abusers regardless of gender.

If you or someone you love is a victim of domestic violence, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline in the US at 800-799-7233 or visit thehotline.org for more information.  If you are in Canada, visit https://www.domesticshelters.org/
